Some History…

It is from a memorable day when paying a tribute to the saxophonist Guy LAFITTE, born in Saint-Gaudens that sprang , in 2003, the idea of turning these “Rencontres du Saxophone” into a Jazz Festival .

In the course of the years, this festival of Jazz in Comminges has known a growing fame with the professionals of music and the media .From now on, It is part of the major cultural events of our region.

Very big names have already been on stage in the Comminges and enticed the audience : Johnny GRIFFIN, Ray BARRETTO, David SANCHEZ, Olivier TEMIME, Didier LOCKWOOD, Biréli LAGRENE, Rick MARGITZA, Richard GALLIANO, E.S.T; Avishai COHEN, Jacky TERRASSON, COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA, GOLDEN Gate QUARTET, Stacy KENT, Sarah MORROW, Omara PORTUONDO, Glenn FERRIS, the BELMONDO brothers and the MOUTIN Brothers , Géraldine LAURENT, Maxim SAURY, Kenny GARRETT, Christian ESCOUDE, Florin NICULESCU, Paolo FRESU, Dmitry BAEVSKI, Robin McKELLE…

Four days of free concerts in the town centre, music trainings, masters class, exhibitions , films, propositions of visit and commercial animation come to complete this festival with the will of making people discover the charms and the patrimony of our region.

…In the evening big names of Jazz will be here for you at the Parc des Expositions in Saint Gaudens: Paolo Fresu, Kenny Garrett, Robin McKelle, Pierrick Pedron, Glenn Ferris, Dmitry Baevsky, Florin Niculescu, Christian Escoude, accompanied with numerous musicians… Thus remember the date of this prolonged weekend from Thursday, May 21st to Sunday, May 24th, 2009.
